How much do top wealth management advisors make?
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for personal financial advisors was $94,170 in May 2021. It means half of the financial advisors earned more than that, and half earned less. One in ten earned less than $47,570, while one in ten made more than $208,000.
How To Make $100,000 Per Year As A Financial Advisor... According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median yearly income for a financial advisor is nearly $88,000 — if you're drop-dead in the middle, you're already close to six figures.
Most financial advisors charge 1 percent of the AUM. A fee higher than this may be considered too high for many individuals, as it represents a significant portion of the investment returns and can impact the overall growth of the portfolio.
Senior financial advisers working with an average-wealth client base can earn in the region of £60,000. Wealth managers or private client advisers who are based in the wealth division of major retail and private banks can earn more than £100,000.
The top 5-10% of advisors often produce over $1M in revenue while managing over $500M in assets. These rainmakers can earn multimillion dollar pay packages from salaries, bonuses, commissions, and equity stakes.
Successful advisers with five-to-10 years of experience can earn in excess of $300k. A decade or more in, hockey-stick growth in take-home pay is not unheard of.
The wealthy also trust and work with financial advisors at a far greater rate. The study found that 70% of millionaires versus 37% of the general population work with a financial advisor. Moreover, 53% of wealthy people consider advisors to be their most trusted source of financial advice.
While 1.5% is on the higher end for financial advisor services, if that's what it takes to get the returns you want then it's not overpaying, so to speak. Staying around 1% for your fee may be standard but it certainly isn't the high end. You need to decide what you're willing to pay for what you're receiving.

Financial advisors typically make money by charging a fee for their services, either an hourly rate or a percentage of the assets they manage for clients. They may also earn commissions from investment products such as mutual funds, annuities, and insurance policies.
How are wealth managers compensated?
The gross revenue you earn as a wealth manager isn't really yours. It will go to the wealth management firm you're affiliated with and you will receive a percentage of the gross revenue. This percentage of gross revenue that you'll receive is referred to as the "grid payout".
The highest salaries for financial planners are in Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey. States such as the District of Columbia, Florida and North Carolina offer high salaries for financial advisors because of the large number and high concentration of financial companies in these states.
Advisors are compensated from the revenue generated from transactions in your brokerage account. Please see the Merrill Best Interest Disclosure Statement. If you work with an MFSA, under our current policies, you will be limited in the types of investment products you can purchase in your brokerage account.
According to InvestmentNews data, which tracks brokers and financial advisors joining or leaving the broker-dealer Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith Inc., Merrill has seen a net loss of 298 financial advisors this year through the end of September.
Beyond that, advisors felt that Merrill's limitations, demands, and pressure to put clients in banking products that didn't make sense (read violation of Reg BI for which there are consequences) led to significant client attrition.
90% Of Millionaires Are Made In Real Estate - 100% Of Billionaires Are... TikTok. If 90% of millionaires come from real estate, then 100% of billionaires come from private equity. And every month I acquire several new companies.
Asset managers keep more reasonable hours. While a person's exact working hours vary based on their employer, 40-to-50-hour weeks are pretty standard in the industry, with occasional Saturday work required.
That's the case even though 42% consider themselves “highly disciplined” planners, which is more than twice the percentage of the general population. Odder still, 70% of wealthy Americans work with a professional financial advisor — and yet one-third still worry about running out of money in retirement.
It seems the answer is yes. With more people seeking out financial advice online, there's a growing market for freelance and remote advisors who are able to connect with clients on a schedule that fits their needs.
Indeed, 42% of respondents think financial advisors are only for wealthy people. But is that really true? While financial advisers can be very expensive — and many require you to have a minimum asset level before they will take you on aa a new client — not all work like this.
Do financial advisors become rich?
As far as experience goes: The average salary of financial advisors with 1-2 years of experience in the U.S. is $63,210 while those with over 10 years of experience earn over $107,068 per year. Glassdoor: According to Glassdoor, the average salary of a financial advisor is $118,385 yearly.
Commissions. In this type of fee arrangement, a financial advisor makes their money from commissions. Advisors earn these fees when they recommend and sell specific financial products, such as mutual funds or annuities, to a client. These are often payable in addition to the above client fees.
Other financial advisors - stockbrokers, insurance agents - are like most of the population: 10% are “rich,' 30% are well-off, 40% are just getting by and the remainder are on their way out. Again, I refer to those with 10+ years of service.
Jobs within the financial industry, such as accounting, consulting, and corporate finance are some of the highest-paying jobs. In the financial services industry, there are some areas that pay significantly more than others, such as investment banking, private equity, and hedge funds.
There is a reason people in finance who work in private equity or a hedge fund make millions. These industries make money by investing in companies, and after a certain level you get an equity stake in the profits of the firm through carried interest.
